How to Keep your Car on the Road for Longer
Running a car can be costly and at times hard work but it can be even more difficult to keep your car on the road for a number of years. Whilst cars are costly, you could save an amazing amount of money if you are able to improve the longevity of your vehicle, avoiding having to replace it. In this blog we are going to be making some suggestions for how you can keep your car on the road for longer.
Driving Smoothly
Before you even think about the repairs side of things, you should consider the way that you drive your vehicle. Your driving can have a huge impact on the long-term performance of the car. It is much kinder to your car if you drive smoothly for the majority of your time on the road. Doing this is proven to reduce wear and also helps you get more miles per tankful. It is however important to remember that when you never rev your engine fully, carbon deposits can build up and effect areas such as valves in your car.
Focus on Fluids
You simply cannot underestimate the importance of the fluids in your vehicle. You should check your engine oil once a fortnight by opening the bonnet and removing the dipstick. If the oil is a dark, dirty colour, this is an indication that it needs replacing. Other areas to check fortnightly include the coolant reservoir and windscreen washer bottle.
Regular Servicing
For a range of other general solutions for the upkeep of your car, regular servicing is essential. Most services would include checks on your car’s tyres, brakes, steering, clutch and more.
